Agent budgets belong in governance and verification now

Agent success has moved past model quality.

The day's strongest evidence points at data platforms, control systems, and verification as the real bottlenecks, so budget and staffing should move there.

  • The real bottleneck. Missing controls break production agents more often than weak models do.

Two Sigma's control system, Credit Karma's MCP gateway, and Coder's 'lethal trifecta' all point the same way: gateway auth, intent-scoped tools, and human approval on writes.

One is a vendor pitch, but the direction is consistent.

Don't scale agent headcount before that platform exists.

  • The verification tax. AI shifted the expensive part from doing to judging.

Google froze its bug bounty until 2027 because AI-generated reports were hallucinated, and Gemini 4 Argan turned a 30-line fix into a 1,200-line PR.

In one team's ceiling test, production disagreed with itself 7% of the time.

It's reviewer hours now, so build deterministic checks and eval gates before merge.

  • Platforms set the ceiling. Your developer platform decides what agents can actually do.

Uber's Minion handles 15% of production PRs because Bazel, cloud dev pods, and Slate were already there to plug into.

Bridgewater's Vault shows the same pattern for data.

Don't wait for the next model; invest in foundations now, because they set your AI ceiling in two to three years.

My take

The model is rented; the organization around it is the moat.

The day's best evidence points at governance, verification, and platform foundations, and I think that's the right place to spend.

But don't copy Credit Karma's full platform on day one.

Start with the gateway, the audit log, and a human check before merge.

Add the heavy layers only when agent count actually hurts.

And I'd treat the CoreWeave keynote the way you'd treat any vendor: keep your own traces, your own eval gates, and your own record of production.
